You could easily be put off playing/practicing by getting a sample library that you just don't get on with or that you don't feel 'connected to' when you play. I'd say get the standard edition as soon as you can, and if you find yourself longing for a different sort of sound, poke around in the world of samples later on. ![]() I've spent 15-20 years chasing great sample libraries and it's only this year that I've found ones that I enjoy playing as much as Pianoteq. I don't know what stage you're at in learning the piano, but for the reasons you mentioned, I'd buy it and not look back: The chord recognition is a great learning tool, not having to wait for samples to load encourages a few minutes noodling or practicing when you might otherwise not bother, and the touch responsiveness/dynamics are good (I think) for helping develop good playing technique. If you want that particular combination of goodies and enjoy the sound of it, Pianoteq is hard to beat. Just below the folders are the DW patches. You'll see two folders there: "Piano 1" and "Piano 2" which contain all the samples. There's also one in: Packs > Legacy > Instruments > Piano. It will open Direct Wave and load all the samples. Packs > Instruments > Keyboard > Grand Piano Drag and drop it onto the channel rack (Step Seq). It's in the same folder as the new ones in FL 12. If you want something with a bit more bite, you have one in FL 11. I have tried the two new grand pianos in FL 12 and they are very natural sounding.
